On 6 April 2017 the amendments to the Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers No 211 (adopted 27 June 2000) \u201cRegulations regarding the State Vocational Secondary Education Standard and the State Industrial Education Standard\u201d developed by the Ministry of Education and Science and National Centre for Education were announced at the meeting of State Secretaries for the approval by the institutions. In contrast to the existing regulations, the amendments state that mandatory professional content of vocational secondary education and industrial education will further also include professional competence teaching\/learning courses (modules) which are based on the achieved learning outcomes. <\/p>\n

In contrast to the existing regulations, the amendments state that mandatory professional content of vocational secondary education and industrial education will further also include professional competence teaching\/learning courses (modules) which are based on the achieved learning outcomes.
\nThe amendments also state that after acquiring curriculum learners would gain knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences which are defined in the occupational standards and professional qualification requirements and according to which the content of the vocational teaching\/learning subjects or courses (modules) and qualification work placement is formed.
\nInter alia, the amendments specify the proportion of theory and work placement in the mandatory content of the curricula, stating that the theory or work placement shall be implemented in the form of work based learning in the amount of at least 25 percent of the total contact lessons.
\nFor the amendments to come into force, after being approved by other institutions (ministries, Employers\u2019 Confederation of Latvia and Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia), they should be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
